    Overview

    Humanin is a 24-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene. It has been studied for cytoprotection in Alzheimer-related cell death, insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular protection, and stress resistance.

    Mechanism of Action

    Humanin is a mitochondrial-derived peptide with cytoprotective properties. It influences metabolism, promotes insulin sensitivity, and modulates JAK2, STAT3, MAPK, and JNK signaling. Cytoprotective effects are largely mediated through the humanin heterotrimeric receptor complex (CNTFRα, WSX-1, gp130).
