Phase 2 TrialsEvaluated in patients with small fiber neuropathy associated with sarcoidosis or type 2 diabetes

    ARA-290

    Description

A tissue-protective peptide derived from erythropoietin. Shows remarkable efficacy for neuropathy, tissue healing, and inflammation reduction without erythropoietic activity.

    Administration Method: SQ
    CategoryHealing
Half-LifeApproximately 6-8 hours following subcutaneous administration

    Overview

ARA-290 is a synthetic 11-amino acid peptide derived from erythropoietin, engineered to retain tissue-protective properties while eliminating hematopoietic effects. It achieves high bioavailability via subcutaneous injection and is primarily metabolized in the liver with renal elimination. It has been studied for treating neuropathic symptoms and improving metabolic control in type 2 diabetes, and for neuropathic and autonomic symptoms in sarcoidosis.

    Mechanism of Action

ARA-290 works by selectively binding to the Innate Repair Receptor (IRR) complex, which consists of CD131 and the EPO receptor. This binding activates tissue-protective signaling pathways without stimulating erythropoiesis, leading to cellular repair and survival, enhanced tissue resilience, neuroprotection, neural repair, anti-inflammatory effects, and vascular protection.

    Benefits

    • Neuropathy relief
    • Tissue protection
    • Anti-inflammatory
    • Nerve regeneration
